Work Related Learning Week

Monday 16th to Thursday 19th 2018

Year 10 students had the choice of either going out on a one week work experience placement or they were able to remain in school and take part in our Work Related Learning Week.  This took place during the school's Enrichment Week. Approximately half of our year 10 cohort went out on work experience placements and the remaining students took part in our 5 day programme. Students who went out on work experience all had a really great experience. Placements that students went on included:

  • ARCUS FM (Engineers Assistant)

  • HPS Plumbing & Heating Services UK Ltd (Plumbing Operative)

  • Form Architecture (Architecture Assistant)

  • Parkour Generations (Sports Coaching/General Assistant)

  • Jove International Ltd (Recruitment Researcher)

  • Willis Towers Watson ( Insurance Administration Assistant)

  • PWW Design (Design Software Assistant)

Monday & Friday – Workplace and University Visits

Students were initially asked which type of careers they were interested in and they were then given the opportunity to select from various visits that they were interested in going to. These included:

  • Archant Newspaper Group (Journalism & Media)

  • Greater Anglia Trains (Engineering & Transport)

  • Metropolitan Police (Central Control Room)

  • Barclays Bank (Banking & Finance)

  • Writtle College (Sports taster sessions)

  • Romford Magistrates Court (Law)

Students enjoyed these days immensely and this was a very positive experience for them to be able to see these companies and universities in action

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - Working Life Programme

This programme was delivered by external facilitators who are business professionals and they engaged our students with their full interactive programme which was aimed at developing employability skills for the workplace.  Students took part in a number of activities that helped them write personal statements for Sixth Form and University applications, CV’s and covering letters to enable them to apply for employment in the future. They learned the importance of using appropriate body language and eye contact so they were able to develop good interview techniques. They also competed in groups against each other in a product launch activity where they had to design their own product, market and develop their website page.
