Modern Foreign Languages
The European Languages Department at Royal Liberty School are proud to offer our students the opportunity to study French, German and Spanish as part of the curriculum as well as offering residential trips to France and Germany.
The European Languages Department consists of three enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, all of whom are trilingual. This means that all lessons are taught by a language specialist. The team is supported by two native language assistant from Spain who offers personalised support to pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
Pupils in KS3 will study one language from French, German or Spanish for two hours a week and all lessons are taught by language specialists in small class sizes. The small Modern Foreign Language class allows the teacher to really observe closely and carefully how individual students are doing and how they are retaining information, making for greater progress.
At KS4 students may study any of the languages offered, even if they have not studied it at KS3. All GCSE courses give our students opportunities to improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as furthering their understanding of the culture and traditions of the countries where that language is spoken.
Every week the department runs support and study clubs to help students with class or homework, or for those pupils who simply want to develop their language skills.
Residential visits are currently offered to Aachen in Germany to visit the Christmas market and to Paris as part of a combined maths and science trip.
The department has an extensive range of French, German and Spanish films and pupils can rent these DVDs free of charge to enjoy at home with friends or family.
