‘Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater.’
At Royal Liberty we aim to help all students to overcome their difficulties in Mathematics, whatever their starting point and to eliminate the stigma of the subject. We want our students to benefit not just numeracy skills and have the confidence to use them, but also the mathematical thinking skills that they develop, enabling students to use complex thinking skills and problem-solving techniques in their everyday life.
The four dedicated mathematics classrooms are all equipped with interactive whiteboards, Actiview camera facilities and Activslates, calculators, geometry sets and textbooks relevant to the abilities of the teaching groups, as well as a plethora of other interactive resources. We have a team of student ‘Maths Ambassadors’ who help to raise the profile of the subject by forging links with the local primary schools via the Year 6 Open evening.
We now run a 2 year KS3 programme which develops the skills and content required for the new 3 year GCSE starting in Year 9. Each chapter introduces the revelance of maths in real life. End of chapter review and my practice are used for consolidation and assesments.
